The man was called Udofia while the wife was known as Ahudie. They lived together in the neighborhood made up of a cluster of hamlets. The people who lived in those hamlets were family, cousins, nephews, extended family  and nuclear family members. The Udofia and Ahudie couple were farmers. They had a flock of goats and sheep. One day the couple made a plan to steal their own goat. After hatching the plan to steal their own goat, they carried out the plan and stole one of their many goats. But the goat they stole was pregnant, and unknown to them it had only a few weeks to deliver. bbb Udofia and his wife also had a large yam-barn. They were reasonably wealthy but at the same time they envied a poor man within their neighborhood...

These two women were married to one man. The first woman was named Elenchi, while the second was called Nwọbịara . Elenchi and Nwọbịara were both nursing mothers. They were nursing new born babies of same ages. Meanwhile, there was farmine in the land. Food and food products were in critical short supply in all the lands. There was drought over the previous year which made farming and food production impossible. So, there was hunger in the land and people were beginning to die of hunger and starvation. One day, Nwọbịara , the second wife went to Elenchi , and said to her, "bring your baby let us cook and eat, and I will bring mine for us to cook and eat instead of us to stay here and die of hunger".
