THE BASTARDIZATIOM OF THE THRONE OF IGWE IN IGBOLAND
The throne of Igwe or Eze in Igbo land is traditional and ancestral. The Eze stool is meant to be sacred and full of divinity and power. It was the oracle that chose who would be king of his people in Igbo land. The traditional Igbo stool enjoyed unadulterated divinity, and sacrosanctity and power, which had direci spiritual link with the gods.
THE IGWE STOOL IS ANCESTRAL AND TRADITIONAL AND NOT POLITICAL
The Nze-na-Ọzọ title holders constitute the king makers whose duty was to prepare the chosen king according to the demand of traditional tenets of the land.
A chosen Eze or Igwe was usually subjected to series of oaths,and rituals to prepare him for the onerous task of the Eze or Igwe stools in Igbo land. A new king could be chosen at infancy according to the wishes of the oracle. Igbo kings were not enthroned by virtue of age, height or wealth but by the dictates of the gods who chooses whoever pleased them irrespective of age or social standing.
CHARLATANS ON THE THRONE TODAY
Unfortunately, today's Igbo Royal stool system has witnessed corrupt invasion by charlatans and criminal elements who have no business being around the Royal stools, not to talk of being the Igwe of their lands as a result of their criminal backgrounds. These criminal elements buy their way into becoming kings of their beleaguered people, who they intimate into making them Eze albeit grudgingly.
These crop of Igwes and Ezes as the case may be, were not chosen by the gods, neither do they enjoy the approval and blessing of their people and the gods. They used their ill-gotten wealth to intimate and cajole their people into submission into making them kings. They refused to undergo the traditional rituals of king making and disregarded the traditional oaths practice expected of a new king before mounting the throne of his ancestors.
The Igwe or Eze is not expected to involve himself or his cabinet into partisan politics, but because these crop of Ezes are criminal minded business men, they do as they like, thereby desecrating the Igwe traditional stool. The Igwe stool is sacred and must be revered and held sacrosant by the occupants of these Royal stools.
The Igwe is a god who is rarely seen, who doesn't speak often, neither is he expected to go visiting his subjects with caps in hand, soliciting for one favor or the other. It should be the other way round, as his subjects are expected to visit the Eze with their gifts.
THE IGWE STOOL IS SUPERIOR TO A POLITICAL OFFICE
The superiority of the Igwe stool to any other office in the land be it political, economic, or judicial cannot be over emphasized. The Igwe throne is the throne of his ancestors, and must not be subject to the whims and caprices of any administrative or political officer in the land, as it is the case today with Igbo kings and their governors. The Eze throne is for life, therefore, no political office holder no matter how highly placed shall have the powers to enthrone or dethrone an Igbo king chosen by the gods and the people.
BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION ON THE IGWE THRONE
Bribery and corruption has become the hallmarks of theses charlatans, parading as Eze or Igwe. The Igwe stool must not see or condon corruption according to Igbo traditions and culture, but today, bribery and corruption is the order of the day spearheaded by the kings themselves.
The recent bribery scandal involving thirteen traditional rulers of Igwe calibre in Anambra state is an example of the rot and corruption in the traditional Igwe stool system of today in Igbo land. An Igwe or Eze is a god and cannot be corrupted and bribed as these thirteen traditional Anambara Igwe have done. These people are charlatans, and criminal minded business men and that's why Prince Arthur Eze was able to cajole them and made mess of the Igwe stool in Anambara. What has happened in Anambara is abomination and calls for the cleansing of the lands and appeasement of the gods.
The following Igwe should be dethroned for allowing themselves and the thrones of their ancestors to be desecrated upon by Arthur Eze in such a shameful manner. 1. Igwe of Alor, 2. Igwe of Abacha, 3. Igwe of Igbariam, 4. Igwe of Ifitedunu, 5. Igwe of Nawfia, 6. Igwe of Ezira. 7. Igwe of Owelle, 8. Igwe of Mkpunando, 9. Igwe of Ezinifite, 10. Igwe of Umumbo, 11. Igwe of Eziagulu-Otu. 12. Igwe of Ikenga.
THE BETRAYAL OF IGBO LAND BY SOME IGWE
It is not news as most of these corrupt and scandalous traditional rulers sell their community lands to the invading army of Fulani terrorists inspite of the killings of their people by the Fulani herdsmen. These traditional rulers collect money from the Fulani herdsmen and damn the consequence of the rape, murder and kidnapping of their people by the Fulani herdsmen.
A traditional ruler is a judicial institution who is holding the Ọfọ mantle on behalf of the gods and his people that chose him. He must not be partial or biased in the dispensation of justice for his people. But today, the Igwe stool is so rotten and corrupt as justice is for the highest bidder in the land.
